Being a mentor to aspiring entrepreneurs can offer a new slant on what you do yourself, and help with your own business

When Ged Backland was a young, inexperienced designer, Ralph Shaffer took him under his wing and explained how to shape his ideas and how the industry worked.

Backland, now 46 and with his own successful business, the Backland Studio, in Haworth, West Yorkshire, never forgot the industry veteran’s generosity and now mentors young people himself.

“For me it is about giving somebody else a chance,” said Backland.
