Dr. Brad Backus – Audio3 Ltd.

Audio3 Ltd. has created the world’s smallest and easiest to use noise dosimeter and the first such device aimed at the entertainment industry and musicians. There are currently more than 150,000 student orchestral musicians at 269 conservatoires and 500 music departments plus 20,000 professional classical musicians from 480 orchestras working in Europe. Studies indicate that as many as 15% of these may go on to have noise-related hearing losses that will affect their quality of life and professional career. In April 2008 noise regulations that have been in force for industry have also come into force for these musicians and the entertainment industry but current devices that measure the required noise dose are geared toward industrial uses and are not easy for individuals to use. The Audio3 soundBadge is the first device to specifically target this market, allowing musicians and people working in the entertainment industry to have a simpler and more cost effective way to comply with the new regulations.  Audio3 has a comprehensive and experienced team that consolidates business acumen, access to specific sales channels, industry and technical knowledge, and design and manufacture skills. We intend to sell directly to music conservatoires at first with a textbook model.

Philippa White, T.I.E

The International Exchange (TIE) specialises in providing transformational learning and development opportunities for communications professionals so that they can build the necessary skills and competencies for advancement. This is achieved through a short-term assignment with a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) or social business in the developing world. The assignment is custom designed to develop the professional’s leadership skills whilst simultaneously leveraging their business experience for the benefit of the NGO and its local community.

Through a TIE placement:

  • communications companies are able to prepare corporate managers with the competencies for advancement and the interpersonal realities of global business, as well as increase morale, recruitment, retention and motivation of employees.
  • NGOs are able improve their communication practices which in turn help increase the voices of target groups, raise awareness of their organisation and the services they provide, help change the behaviour of people within the local communities and assist in raising future finances.
  • communication professionals get an exposure to and a better understanding of bigger picture communication problems, build confidence to take on new roles and responsibilities within communications, build cross-cultural and cross-discipline understanding and sensitivity, learn more about a BRIC country, and learn how to use creativity and communications with limited resources.

JogPost is a media distribution company that delivers leaflets and all sorts of other media door to door and business to business all over London and the surrounding areas. They employ personal trainers, ex-military personnel, semi professional athletes, and other extremely fit and healthy individuals to jog around the streets delivering their clients marketing materials. JogPost is the only company that has it’s distribution people jog, this means they can deliver twice as quickly as any other company in the industry. This in turn means their margins are higher and they can provide a much better service than anyone else. There are many ways in which they provide a much better service, these include; full time supervisors for the distributors (they are the only company to provide this service), use of the most expensive mapping and report building software on the market, they are the only company to pay their staff more than minimum wage so have a much higher calibre of worker who are motivated to do a good job and do, vigorous back checking systems, pedometers to measure speed of distributors, and for every 1000 leaflets the deliver they even plant a tree. JogPost is the new age of leaflet distribution, they are quite simply the only choice for your media distribution

Mark Davies, Founder, Solar Legacy

Solar Legacy C.I.C. is a not for profit members organisation.

The organisation has been set up to find ways of fighting climate change by introducing people to clean renewable energy both in the United Kingdom and in countries in the developing world.

We are setting up an electricity co-operative in the United Kingdom and we are developing plans to build a large scale solar / wind, power generating facility. The profits from this facility will be used to provide free solar power generating equipment to our members (as decided by a board of our volunteers)

We are currently working on projects to plant millions of trees across the developing world. We are working closely with other organisations and are benefitting these projects by raising the funds for tree planting and by providing free solar powered equipment to the people in these developing world countries who are planting the trees. We like to take a hands-on approach and prefer to work on self-help projects where we are not simply handing over money to other people but giving them training and providing them with seeds and equipment and support while they grow the trees. The solar powered equipment benefits the people directly who are helping to plant the trees and helps with education and agriculture amongst other things.

As part of our projects to raise public awareness of climate change and to raise funds for tree planting projects, we have partnered with a number of other companies to bring you products and services which are related to energy saving or tackling climate change. We attach some kind of tree planting initiative to all of these products and services. For example if you purchase a commercial air conditioning system from one of our partners, we will be given the funds to plant enough trees to absorb at least the equivalent amount of annual CO2 emissions as those emitted from the building to which it is attached.

We are committed to running projects for the community and we are open to all members who wish to become involved in running the organisation or forming and implementing its policies. To find out more about the benefits of joining our organisation, how to become involved in our work or in running the organisation, and how to subscribe to our annual membership, please visit:
